THE CHOIR

The Purbeck Arts Choir is open to anyone who wants to sing! We presently have 60+ members in all voice parts (SATB). Under the inspirational and encouraging baton of our conductor Jay Buckle we sing mainly (but not exclusively) 4-part choral music and previous experience is helpful but not essential. For information about “what, where and when” etc. please go to the ABOUT page.

Use the link below to hear us sing an anthem by local composer David Fawcett.

OUR CONCERTS

We normally have two concerts each year – December and April/May but are also involved with many other events during the year with local musicians and singers. To find out more, check our COMMUNITY page.

The Purbeck Arts Choir began as a madrigal group over 50 years ago and was one of the earliest members of the Dorset Guild of Singers. We remain one of the three core Guild choirs and we perform a major choral work every two years with other guest choirs at the Lighthouse Poole.

OUR EVENTS

A Celebration of Christmas Music
Christmas Concert – 2 December 2017

Christmas celebrations are starting early this year for the Purbeck Arts Choir. Our Christmas concert will take place on Saturday 2 December at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Swanage.

Christmasposter

As in previous years the choir will be joined by the Purbeck Youth Choir and an orchestra of talented local musicians. We are delighted that Lydia Bennett, who is principal bassoonist with the Wessex Youth Orchestra, will be playing a Vivaldi Bassoon concerto.

We have a packed programme of exciting music which we are looking forward to singing this year - the Vivaldi Credo is taking centre stage and is joined by other festive delights including “This Joyous Night”, a beautiful telling of the Christmas story by Alan Woods and Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium”. We will also be singing “The Seal Lullaby” by Eric Whitacre whose has achieved worldwide acclaim for his choral music.

The concert is in support of the Swanage Development Trust and tickets are only £10 in advance from Corbens and Choir members (Liz Roberts 481419), or £12 on the door.

Dorset Guild of Singers Concert – 28 April 2018 at 7.30pm in the Lighthouse, Poole

In 2018 we will be joining singers from Wareham, Briantspuddle and Broadstone to sing Elgar’s “Dream of Gerontius”. Joint rehearsal schedule is available on the Downloads section.
