AHOY! SING FOR THE MARY ROSE BY ALEXANDER L’ESTRANGE

There were over 120 singers of all ages taking part in Ahoy! on 9 June at St Mary's Church in Swanage. Students from four local schools were joined by a community choir of singers from all over Purbeck.

The evening was a great success with Hornpipe dancers from the June Ranger School of Dance, a fantastic live band and a performance full of tremendous energy and excitement. Sea-shanties, folk songs and tudor music filled St Mary’s Church and the concert was enjoyed by singers and audience alike.

UK PREMIERE PERFORMANCE OF “REQUIEM FOR HUMANITY” IN SWANAGE

At our Spring concert on 1 April 2017, we sang Helen Ostafew’s “Requiem for Humanity”, which was the first performance of this new work in the UK. Helen herself was the soprano soloist with husband Daan Temmink on the piano and Mum and Dad (Jan and Nick) also singing in the choir!

We also sang the ever popular “Faure Requiem” and were delighted that The Stanford String Quartet (resident ensemble of the Purbeck Strings Festival) could accompany the choir with Daan Temmink (piano), Simon Lole (organ) and Ashley John Long (double bass). Soloists Grace Lovelass and David Fawcett completed the line-up and for a very special and memorable evening. The Concert Programme can be viewed in the Archives section on the Gallery page.
